*** I wrote this blog entry in 2010 and never added it, until now***
Here we are, another holiday. How many has it been? The summer flew by this year, no posts, didn't want to think about death or the people I no longer have in my life. But now the holidays are here and they have a way of dousing me with cold water.
There is something about Christmas especially that just begs for us to be made happy. YOU MUST BE HAPPY! It is Christmas, therefore we smile. I'm not so sure anymore. Christmas hasn't made me smile in a very long time.
When I was a child, growing up in relative poverty, Christmas was always a big deal. There was no doubt that there was magic in Christmas, and for this one day we received a gift, had a meal, and we were pleased with life.
It takes more than a gift these days to make me happy. In fact, exchanging gifts seem almost like a bad thing to do. How can we exchange these meaningless trifles when there is so much going on that screams for attention.
It seems I have a bad attitude about holidays. Oh well.
